What people are saying about 1984
Rated 4 out of 5 by JJW23 from Thought Provoking This is probably one the most thought provoking plays I have seen. I was still contemplating it for about fifteen minutes after it had ended before I spoke again! ... This in all fairness was partly due to a confusing start and understanding the position of Winston and some of the characters. However over the next 4 hours (maybe I digest things at slower pace to everyone else!) the "holes" started to be filled!, including the staging and effects. Maybe I should have refreshed my understanding of the 1984 story before attending; if you have no concept of the book at all then I suggest you don't bother going or better still speed read the book and then go and see this. The more I have thought about this play the more I understand how clever it was portrayed. The acting, particularly Winston was superb but all played their parts superbly well.

Rated 5 out of 5 by GailE from Shocking A well adapted, directed and acted theatrical version of the iconic novel. The production enhances Orwell's powerful intellectual contribution to our culture and political process, with its increasing relevance, and suggests a moral ambiguity that is perplexing and disturbing. Some very strong scenes and not for the faint-hearted.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Lozzabroughts from My favourite book brought to life Beyond expectation, one of the most intense experiences I've had at the theatre. Gripping from the beginning it drew you in and left you wishing for more information.

Rated 3 out of 5 by DMac from Worthy attempt 1984 is a wonderful but deeply frightening book and this production is a worthy attempt to bring it to the stage. The acting is good, the set interesting...but the play never seems to engender the sense of paranoia and fear in the book.

Rated 5 out of 5 by Dawn 2709 from An alternative way of life I went with a friend - very thought provoking. Definitely need to talk about the plot afterwards, over a few glasses of wine
