What people are saying about Parquet Courts

Rated 4 out of 5 by from When the support band save the show! I went to this show with my wife and son. It was a thirsty night because £4.60 is a rip-off for a pint. Housewives were brilliant , delivering a non-stop battery of Swans/Sonic Youth/Joy Division/Faust style noise. In comparison, Parquet Courts were lifeless and uninspiring. You could tell the crowd were ready to go wild every time they injected a bit of pace, but then they would slow it down to a plodding dirge similar to the likes of Cars or a Talking Heads without the originality and sparkle of the David Byrne's lot. I can only remember leaving a concert early on three occasions and this was one of them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great gig... great band!!! Had a blast... Parquet Courts are probably one of the most underrated bands on the go right now. Superb set list mixing old and new tunes. Decent venue with cracking sound/acoustics but the view isn't the best due to the pillars (not the bands fault)... everyone needs these guys in the lugs and lives.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I wish I'd filmed it This was a night out like no other - my first time visiting the Invisible Wind Factory in Liverpool and it will not be the last. Housewives kicked things off tonight - a threepiece from Gloucester with a sound all their own. We began in complete darkness with a slowly-building electronic intro, and a 30 minute sonic assault later we were left wondering what the heck just hit us. Like an acid jazz Gang of Four tribute band doing Jean Michel Jarre covers, this was a mind-bending and truly unique experience. We were now awake and anticipating the main event with the eagerness of an expectant father - I must admit to knowing little about Parquet Courts prior to seeing them live, but the irreversible seed has now been sown, due to the irrepressible enthusiasm and sheer musicianship of this amazing quartet from Brooklyn, NY. With an unerring sense of occasion, this hour long set of classically infectious rock brilliance was punctuated by the band's dry wit and humorous interaction with their ever-expanding throng of loyal followers, to which your author is an entirely willing and compliant +1. Only 24 hours have elapsed since the gig and I have already purchased tickets to see this band again in Manchester in October - by then I will have learned a lot more about this fantastic live act - I urge you to do likewise - this is a musical education and school's in for the summer. Brilliant. Cam Adair, 16 June 16.
