What people are saying about The Comedy Works

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Two good acts, two shockers Milton Jones and Peter Brush were great as was the compere. Doc Brown just wasn't funny, he wasn't even telling many jokes just wittering on about his life, not great for a headline act. Phil Nicol shouts a lot and is really difficult to watch, he was performing very old material, most of which he performed last year at the same venue and he has been doing for 10 years. I know comedy is subjective but the headline act usually hits the mark but not this time.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Another cracking night at The Comedy Works Phil Nichol is mental, in all the best ways. Easily the standout of the night's great line-up, compered amusingly by Joe Rowntree. Bit too much heckling going on from boorish middle-aged men who should know better, but the comedians gave much better than they got. Peter Brush was hilariously pathetic - one to watch for sure. Milton Jones, the silly-haired pun-and-punchline merchant who pops up on TV quite a lot, did some puns and punchlines as expected but very well indeed. He's a master of his craft really. Then Doc Brown, who appeared to be a little 'tired and emotional', reminded us he was a rapper but didn't do any rapping, which was a shame, but he gave a sort of bittersweet (and also suitably amusing) essay on life and death, teenagers, being black and white at the same time and more. Good follow-up to the last event at which Jerry Sadowitz tore Walton-on-Thames a new hole.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Comedy comes to us! What a great night out on Friday with big comedy names right here in little old Walton-on-Thames! Well compered, good variety from in your face to self-effacing, and top-quality laughs along with thought-provoking material from Doc Brown who proved you can be funny without being cruel, cool without reinforcing stereotypes. I recommend you give the comedy works a try!
